Abstract

In the urban landscape of Bosso and Chanchaga local government areas in Minna, Niger State, Nigeria, slums pose significant challenges to community well-being. This abstract explores the transformative potential of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing technologies in comprehensively understanding these slum areas. By employing GIS and remote sensing tools, this study delves into the systematic collection of spatial data, enabling precise mapping of slum settlements. Through neighborhood analysis, the research dissects the intricate fabric of these areas, revealing patterns of housing, infrastructure, and community resources. Additionally, the study utilizes these technologies to unravel the socio-economic characteristics of the inhabitants, shedding light on income disparities, education levels, and employment opportunities. By integrating GIS and remote sensing into the analysis of Bosso and Chanchaga's slum areas, this research offers valuable insights for policymakers, urban planners, and social scientists, guiding informed decision-making aimed at sustainable urban development and social equity. The study conducted in the slums of Bosso and Chanchaga local government areas of Niger state utilized Geographic Information Systems (GIS) as a foundational tool for comprehensive data collection and analysis. GIS technology allowed researchers to create detailed maps and spatially analyze various aspects of the slum areas, including housing conditions, access to basic amenities, and socio-economic indicators
