Urbanization on Poverty Reduction and Economic Development

Globally, urbanization play a significant role of economic development and Poverty reduction However, the impactation of Urbanization on poverty reduction is sophisticated and multifaceted. This study examines the relationship between Urbanization, poverty reduction, and economic development, with Kwahu West Municipality Nkawkaw, Eastern Region of Ghana been it main focus. In Ghana, while Urbanization has occurred the rate of poverty has been reducing rapidly over the past decades. As a result, this research is to investigate the impact of urbanization on poverty reduction in Kwahu West Municipality Eastern Region Ghana. We agreed that there is a U-shape relationship between the level of Urbanization and the poverty reduction in Ghana adopting Driscoll and Kraay's method and D-GMM method to make estimate the provinces panel data in the period 2010-2020.The findings suggest that Urbanization can contribute to poverty reduction and economic development, but it's impact is influenced by factors such as urban planning, infrastructure development, and social protection policies. The paper has significant implications for policy makers.
