Histological Effect of Ultra Violet (Uv), Light on the Ovary of Albino Wistar Rats, UV light

Abstract

Ultraviolet (UV) is a non-ionizing radiation and contain a band of electromagnetic radiations with wave length from 200nm to 400nm. The aim of this study is to evaluate the histopathological effect of UV light on the ovary of female wistar rats. They were divided into four equal groups (A – E) with ten (10) rats each. Group A served as the control and the rats were given distilled water and feed only. In addition to feed and water, Groups B rats were kept under UV light for 30mins, Group C rats were kept under Uv light for 1hour twice daily, Group D rats were kept under UV light for 2 hours thrice daily and Group E were kept under UV light for 4 hours thrice daily. ANOVA was used to analyze the results of the weight and differences was considered significant at p<0.05 level of confidence. All data was expressed in table as mean ± standard deviation (SD). The micrograph results reveals that the micrographs reveals that a higher exposure to UV light of 2 h and 4h daily, ovary tissues, Adenofibroma and adenocarcinoma was seen in ovary tissues respectively. However, at moderate exposure, mild histological changes were observed. In conclusion, the findings related to the effect of ultraviolet (UV) radiation on the ovary, specifically the presence of denatured corpus luteum, fatty tissue accumulation, and adenofibroma formation, paint a complex picture of potential implications for ovarian health
