Abstract

Urbanization is rapidly transforming the landscape of the Eastern Region of Ghana, posing significant challenges to food production and agricultural development. This case study examines the impact of urbanization on agricultural productivity, land use patterns, and livelihoods of farmers in the region.  Using a mixed methods approach, combining survey research, focus group discussions, and key informant interviews, this study reveals that Urbanization has led to the conversion of arable land into urban uses, resulting in reduced agricultural productivity and increasing food insecurity. Furthermore, the study highlights the challenges faced by farmers, including limited access to land, credit, and markets. The study concludes that urgent attention is needed to address the negative impacts of Urbanization on food production and agricultural development in the Eastern Region of Ghana. Recommendations are made for policy makers, agricultural extension agents, and other stakeholders to promote sustainable agricultural practices, support small scale farmer, and ensure equitable access to land and resources
