The Role of 18 Year Old Agarwood Trees in Storing Carbon: Case Study at KHDTK DIKLATHUT-FKLT Mulawarman University Samarinda

Agarwood (Aquilaria malaccensis Lamk.) is one of the Non-Timber Forest Product (NTFP) commodity groups, in addition to the NFP products produced, agarwood has an important role in storing carbon. So this study aims to determine the carbon reserves per tree based on the diameter class of agarwood plants in KHDTK DIKLATHUT, Faculty of Forestry and Tropical Enviroment, Mulawarman University, Samarinda. Data collection using the purposive sampling method, namely deliberately selecting agarwood trees at the research location point, then measurements were carried out using the non-destructive sampling method, namely only measuring the diameter and height of the agarwood tree. The results of the diameter and height measurements obtained were then grouped according to diameter class and used to obtain the value of the carbon reserves of agarwood trees per diameter class. The calculation results in diameter class I obtained a carbon reserve value of 500.37 kg and were able to absorb 1834.87 kg of CO2. In diameter class II, a carbon reserve value of 353.89 kg was obtained and was able to absorb 1297.72 kg of CO2. Then in diameter class III, the carbon reserve value was obtained at 281.22 kg and was able to absorb CO2 of 1031.24 kg. And in diameter class IV, the carbon reserve value was obtained at 293.33 kg and was able to absorb CO2 of 1075.65 kg
