Abstract

India's agricultural sector, which employs a significant portion of the population and is crucial to the national economy, struggles with issues of market inefficiency and transparency. Farmers frequently encounter difficulties in accessing timely and accurate market information, leading to suboptimal pricing and decision-making. The Internet of Things (IoT) offers a promising solution to these challenges by enabling the collection and analysis of real-time data through interconnected sensors and devices.

This research paper explores the role of IoT in enhancing market transparency within the Indian agricultural sector. It investigates how IoT technologies, such as smart sensors, weather stations, and market information systems, can improve the flow of information between farmers and market participants. The study utilizes both primary and secondary data sources, including surveys, interviews, and government reports, to assess the effectiveness of IoT applications in reducing information asymmetry and market inefficiencies.

The analysis reveals that IoT implementations have led to notable improvements in price transparency, better resource management, and more informed decision-making among farmers. Empirical data from various regions indicates a significant increase in market efficiency and fair pricing in areas where IoT solutions have been adopted. Case studies illustrate successful IoT applications, such as real-time crop monitoring and market price alerts, which have empowered farmers with critical insights and enhanced their market engagement.

The paper concludes with recommendations for promoting wider adoption of IoT technologies in agriculture, including policy support, infrastructure development, and farmer education. By leveraging IoT, the agricultural sector in India can achieve greater market transparency, improved economic outcomes for farmers, and a more resilient agricultural system.
